Monday, January 4 - Reflection

For the remainder of the year, we will submit fifteen minutes of reflective writing each class day on that day's class(es). Today, we created groups for two projects titled "All the World's a Stage I'm going Through" and "A Night on the Mountain" and began planning and scripting them. Please submit your reflection as a comment here.

  1. Izzy and i worked on the project titled " All the worlds a stage in going through." It took time to think of what might be a good start point, but i think we concluded that we would focus on the idea of two characters being very pessimistic about the "world" and its future. Their characters would be very lethargic and slow moving. The dialogue would contain hits about why the characters feel so negative. The stage direction are minimal. Having both characters sitting over a table. Izzy and i liked the idea of having a vague reason to the story. By beginning and ending the scene as though it was a continuing conversation.

Beatrice, Ashlie, Sam and I worked together on the project titled "A night on the mountain." After long discussions. I think we decided to work on a piece where the four characters discus the possible adventure of a night on a mountain. We tried to think out side the box for concepts but the title left us feeling like "simple" is the only way of creating a workable piece. Baring in mind that in 10 minutes a large story about a mountain would be hard to develop. We also discussed the idea of Flashbacks, but even this is difficult reenact, with in a small time space. However hopefully further discussions will establish characters and define the story line a little more.

  2. Both of these sound good, Blue. I forgot to remind everyone today, but please remember to bring your repertoire scene (the one from last year) script tomorrow. Please remind any of our class that you see.

  3. Blue and I worked on our scene "All the world's a stage I'm going through." The Idea of it was two very depressed characters, who really didn't have a reason for their depression. The characters had a very negative outlook on life and do not care about their future. The play will not have much movement as it is simply the two characters sitting at a desk talking about their views. It took some time to develop the actual idea and what we will do with it. The whole scene will basically just be a conversation between the two. We will continue to work on the scene in more detail.

Matilda and I worked on our scene with Ema called "A night on the mountain." There were many ideas as to what we could do and we have a basic idea at the moment. We decided it will be about 3 friends who are climbing a mountain trying to get into Switzerland and are being followed by German soldiers. One of the friends has an asthma attack and has to stop. Her friend pushes her to go on starting a fight between the two and the other stops them. We're not sure if this is what we are going to continue with as Ema was not here today and apparantly has a very good idea towards this one. When Ema is back we will discuss it in more detail and decide exactly what we want to do with it.

  4. today i worked with Matilda and Desiree on " All the worlds a stage in going through." we decided to combine our orignal ideas since we didnt come to a proper agreement. The basic plot is two girls are travelling to hong kong, and are smuggling drugs. they end up being caught from a tip off from one of the other passengers. the scene would take place with them in jail sitting together. one character is unfortunately mentally unstable! which we agreed desiree could play VERY well! since she is in prison she has not taken her medication. there will be one police officer on stage stating that shes fine. whilest the other character is pleading for help, in a foreign country. the stage props would be a glass, hairbrush, rags.

i worked with Rebecca on "A night on the mountain." we tried to be original in the making of the plot. Basically a man is on his journey and discovers a new tribe. he is climbing the mountain and then creeps through some bushes(walks on stage) and hides himself from the people who are centre stage. he watches as the two people on stage perform a ritual, it is the preparation of the sacrifice. he has never seen people dressed so abstract in the modern world. he believes nobody knows about them. he watches (mesmerised) as the two people take an animal on a spit and hold it over a fire. they then run around like animals. The man takes a filming of what he has seen. and believes he will introduce these people to the modern world. The stage props would be wood, stuffed animal, camera, notebook. This idea will be strongly developed in time, and i would also like to hear dennis's input!

  5. Patrick and I worked on the Project title "All the world's a stage I'm going through." It kind of took us a bit of discussion to come to what could be a possible idea. We talked about how making it about this man and he's been going through the normal motions his whole life and he reached a certain age, he met this person and made him want to live a more adventurous sort of life while he still can. It's still up in the air because we have to wait and see what Ema's ideas where and maybe try and fit them in with ours or something like that.

Blue, Sam. Beatrice, and I are working on "A night on the mountain." This one kind of stumped us because we wanted to make it more "out of the box" rather than just having the scene on a mountain top. We talked about having the four of us be all together and talk about a night on a mountain or a night one of us had or something. But Blue does have a point in that its hard to reenact a Flashback with little time. So we still have a bit more discussion making to do on what we want to do.

Sam and I worked on the project "All the World's a Stage", and even Denis is in this group.
We started of talking about what we had written for it before we left for the holidays. Sam told me hers, and we talked more about what happened in her version. We both made a few changes here and there to make it a bit easier to act out and so that it would include 3 characters, for me, Sam and Denis.
We made a basic plan of what would happen and so on. It's all about a poor girl, moving to a new country trying to make it there, she wants to be famous. She then gets scammed by a man who says something he is not and he takes all of her savings and she has nothing left.
Then something else happens (we dont know what yet)and the girl meets a lady who offers to 'take care' of her.
Its a very basic plan to start of with and we would like to hear Denis input in this too. I think he'll have some very interesting ideas!

Des, Patrick and I worked on the project "A night on the Mountain". Where we made up something simple from scratch. Its simple story of three very good friends (young teenagers), camping on a monutain top for the night because there was something special that was supposed to happen with the stars that night.
They didnt know what to do to make the time pass faster so two of the friends got in an argument about what to do. But then the other friend came and stopped it, told them that he had a story that they would both like. It was a scary story about something that had happened. One of the girls keept on saying that it was all just so made up, but the other one got very scared and called her mum, but the call didnt go through. It all played out just like the scary storie they had heard.
We have time to do anymore, but I think it would be fine to stop it there. And thats all we got so far, and it looks like its a very good start to all of it.

  8. Rebecca:

Beatrice and I worked on our scene called "All the worlds a stage I'm going through." It took us a considerably long time to invent the plot of the story but we then finally decided that or scene is going to be about 2 strangers who happen to meet at a random coffee shop in a very quite street. We haven't decided who is going to play who but we know that 1 man and 1 woman are going to be the main focus of the scene (played by us of course). They share a table between each other and find out that they have a lot in common because they speak about there problems and feelings and how they feel in this world.

In the second lesson i worked with Megan on "A night on the mountain." Me and Megan worked very well in coming up with the plot and came to agree that the story is going to be about 1 tribe with 2 people up on a high mountain preparing for a sacrifice. Meanwhile a young man just managed to climb the mountain and saw smoke rising from the distance. He made his way through the trees and found these 2 peculiar people dancing around a fire dressed in the most unusual clothes with extremely strange props. i don't think Megan and I have finalized the ending because we have to completely views on how it should end so maybe when Denis comes back we will discuss with him how it should end and finally finish the scene.
mes back we will discuss with him how it should end and finally finish the scene.

Firstly we did the scene " the world is a stage im coming through" in this scene i was paired with astrid and dennis. dennis was not present so me and astrid took over. We took ideas from our exam paper we had written and made new ideas around the old. The basic plot of it is a small town girl who moves to a big city like New York to become famous but in the process get's scammed by a con artist but then it has a happy ending an a kind woman helps her! there are 3 characters and we thought it was a really good choice because the scenery dosent have to change so it will be easy to do as a short scene. With more work on it, it will develop and evolve into its place.

The second scence that we did was " a night on the mountain" we didnt want to do a stereo typical people going camping and sleeping on a mountain because we felt like everyone was going to do that. Instead we tried to think outside the box and come up with metaphorical things that the mountain could be but in the end came to no definite conclusion... this will be discussed again soon and probably more fresh ideas will pop into our heads and we will clafiry something.

  10. Desiree

This is the 3rd time that im writing it!! My internet kept cutting. SO...
For " All the worlds a stage in going through." i was with Megan and Matilda. Since we couldnt choose which story we want to pick, we decided to combine them all together. Its basically about two girls travelling to Hong Kong who smuggle drugs. They get caught. There is a mentally ill girl in our scene (which I play) and she has problems when she ends up in prison because she cant take her tablets. The third person is a police officer. We would need some small props but still need to discuss.

For " a night on the mountain" i am with Patrick and Astrid. Its about 3 best friends that are camping on the mountain and are waiting for the stars to form in a special way. While we are waiting for this, two of us get into an argument so one of us decides to tell a scary story. We get scared and it all ends up like the scary story, eg, the phone calls dont go through.

We didnt have time to do more so we are still deciding how to continue.
