Quarter 4 - A Fresh Start!

Grade 10 Drama - Quarter 4

I don't think that the date to which Grade 10 attends classes has yet been determined exactly. For our purposes, let's assume that we will continue having class-meetings through Thursday, May 6. (We will have to make further changes if it turns out that we don't have so much time.)

Assessments:

- Reflections (EVERY class meeting day)

Let's assume that every performance will take place BOTH in the class meeting of the listed date AND for an audience at Lunchtime on the same date.

- "Picture Scene" - April 27
- The Winslow Boy, Act 1 - April 28
- "A Night on the Mountain" - April 29
- "All the World's a Stage I'm Going Through" - May 5
- "The Hitman" - May 6

All work for coursework beyond the picture scene will take place outside class-time. Lunchtime recording can be scheduled one week in advance for any day other than Day 6.

  1. Today was a rather unusual start to the class. Mr. MacLachlan had us stand in front of a sign and re-cite what it said whilst he recorded it. The sign was highlighting the importance of reflections and how it can “Destroy” our grade. I think we all realized the significance of these reflections.

We then broke out into picture scene groups. We began to rehearse this scene. But I feel very frustrated with this scene. It was a strong beginning but I feel towards the end the lines have lost their importance. It becomes almost silly. I want to spend this weekend altering the end of the script to have a dramatic effect or even to make some sense of the plot. I feel like it strayed too much from the picture, and became pointless.

We then started to rehearse A Night On The Mountain. I was surprised at the jump of progress we had made. We went from people not knowing any lines and no actions, to having almost every line down and everyone knowing what to do. This scene has now come along way, we have established our purposes, I think it is almost ready to perform it.

We then changed our groups of All The Worlds A Stage, I love the idea we have know made. I am with Rebecca Sam and Izzy. We had an idea of us all holding a picture frame with all a different story to tell, then we will break up and perform a clip from each person’s life. I’m very happy with this scene I think it will be an excellent piece, as it is very original. I can’t wait!

We then figured out our groups for the hit man. It was hard to avoid the typical cliché someone’s on the loose who’s committed a lot of murders in the area. We came up with the idea of the hit man just moving into the neighborhood, but know one knows who he is, and so they invite him round to dinner, during this time they are questioning him about his life and they begin to discuss the hit man. In the end it is going to end up with the couple sitting on a settee watching the latest news on the hit man when he suddenly comes behind them with a knife in the air.
This scene has a lot of potential it would also be very fun to play around with props, and costume and setting! Can’t wait :D

Today in class we started of with talking about the REFLECTIONS. Sir had written something on the board, and then he made us all, one after one, come up to the board infront of the camera where he recorded us saying that we will now, from today on do our reflections on time, but if you didn't do it last night you could re-do it today (as a last time to be able to re-do it for a grade). If you do not do your RE-FLEC-TIONS on time your grade will go down, low, very low. Sir did this so that he would have evidence of us all saying that we would from now on, do our reflections ON TIME.

After this we talked about what a few people had written on the blog last night, partly about stress with exams coming up, to little rehersale time in class and so on. Sir was very nice about this and listened to us. So he change things around a bit to make it more leasing and 'de-stressing' for everyone. I think that everyone was happy with today's little talk.

We then worked on our picture scenes where me and Matilda had time to make our way half way through the script kind of. And improvement was made, we knew our line's surprisingly well which felt very good. If we keep up this good work the piece can only get better (which it will, fingers crossed)!

After this we rehersed our Night on a Mountain scene, which was very needed for my group. We went over stage directions and actions that will happen through out the scene. We though had a bit of trouble with Patrick's 'speaking' problem, due to pain. But it was all fine and we worked it out in the end with smiles on our faces, thank god! This was very needed! So now for my group they only need to be off-book and then we'll go through it again next week and it will hopefully (fingers crossed) be awesome. If everyone puts in the effort, we would really be able to pull this off! Hoping for the best. We can do it!

    BREAK

After our relaxing break we went back into the drama room to continue our work for today. We then did need groups for 'All the Worlds a Stage...' where I'm in the group with Ashlie, Blue and Matilda. We all came up with some pretty good idea of the scene and what to do and so on. We have an idea of how the scene is supposed to be mapped out to which means that we are off to a great start! I'm looking forward to finishing this piece with the girls because it is off to a very good start, as it looks now.

Before the bell went we also did new groups for 'The Hit Man' where I'm in the same group as Ashlie, Isabella and Megan. We all came up with different ideas of what to do and how to act it out. This also seems to be of to a very good start!

Today's lesson was really good and extremly useful! I'm glad that we changed a few things and got the issues out of the way.

    It looks bright!
