Reflection - Monday, March 8

In today's double period, Beatrice, Denis and Patrick performed their picture scene.

We then discussed whether any of the picture scenes would be re-performed for an improved grade during a lunch period this week and made a schedule for these performances.

We then performed and discussed our scripts for "A Night on the Mountain" to determine that all players were off-book as scheduled.

Finally, we spent our remaining time rehearsing our scene from The Winslow Boy.

Please submit your reflection as a comment here.

Please remember that tomorrow (Tuesday) we will be rehearsing "All The World's A Stage" and The Winslow Boy, that on Wednesday we will be rehearsing "A Night on the Mountain" and that next Tuesday (DAY 6), March 16 we will be performing "A Night on the Mountain" for a grade.

  1. Today we started rehearsing our ''Night On The Mountain'' scenes and we were discussing how they have to be done because there were a lot of parts with pregnat teenagers, drinking, smoking and that kind of stuff so Mr. Maclachlan told us that if we are ok with it it's not a problem to have a bit of that but if we all do it it wouldn't look good for our IGCSE exams so it's better if we re-do these parts. We had only two groups performing the scenes today because in the other two there were people absent so we couldn't do it properly but in our scene there was Matilda reading Rebbecca's lines and we rehearsed it.

In the rest of the time we were doing ''The Winslow Boy'' lines and we were meant to be off-book for today but there was still me and a few others who didn't learn their lines very well so we had to hold the scripts. Today the reharsels were much better than last time especially on ''The Winslow Boy'', but there is still a lot to learn for some of us as this would be our IGCSE Drama exam but we have a lot of time yet to learn our lines better and perform it.

  2. Today we had a double lesson. We started off the first lesson by working on our 'A Night on A Mountain' scenes. My group went first. Its me, Blue, Beatrice and Sam. We didnt really have a complete script but we tried and worked with what we had. It didnt going terribly bad, but we kinda messed up near the end because we added more lines on a separate piece of paper and it was jsut all starting to not make sense. Mr. MacLachlan did like our idea of how it started and how it didnt actually take place on a mountain. How we based our problems on this pile of clothes which represented the mountain. However, when we performed it today, we didnt have that mountain with us to portray that more clearly. So were given some helpful ideas to improve our scene. We are going to take out the unnecessary words like curse words and unrelated, inappropriate words. We had a discussion on that issue, because almost everyone had something of that subject, like of teenage pregnancies and smoking or drinking in their scene. So we are advised to make the scenes viewable for any sort of audience of adult at the school. We are also going to add more to the scene to make things more clearer, like the fact that Sam was implied as a lesbian, and also emphasize on the pile of clothes somehow.
Then in the second lesson, we worked on the Winslow Boy a bit. We started near the end of the script so that that group can get a little bit more practice in and then once that was done we just went straight from the beginning. I see a real improvement with some people and their lines. Knowing our lines is really the key thing, so we can put the focus on acting it out and get a feel of what works for our character and what doesnt.
Tomorrow we are working on 'All the World's A Stage.' We havent worked on those in a while, so its good that we are. Then in the second have we are gonna work on Winslow Boy a bit more again, which is good. I really enjoy working on the Winslow Boy. Its fun.
    see ya guys tomorrow :)

Today Patrick was absent which put a stopper for Beatrice and Denis to perform their picture scene, which they still haven't preformed. This will then have to be done when the whole group is gathered in class and no one is absent. It will be most likely be tomorrow or on day 2.

We then talked about "re-performing" our picture scenes and the other scene. I and Matilda are re-doing our picture scene on Thursday. And the Daddy Long-Legs group is re-performing the scene on Friday. All of this during lunch time.

We then after this watched two groups perform their Night on a mountain scenes. The two scenes very both very interesting but I think that the groups are apparently going to change some things in their scripts. After this we watched Megan's group who just read out their script because Becky was absent. But also this script is of to a very good start.

After this we went over the end and the start of A Winslow Boy which actually went really well. People are starting to get into character more now and starting to feel more comfortable with the roles.
Todays lesson went very well in my opinion and I think that it went really well.

  4. Unfotunetely Pat was abscent today, so Beatrice and Denis could not do their picture scene again. But hopefully he will soon be back to perform it.

Today we started of with a picture scene and second my group went. It was me Izzy and Matilda, we perormed the night on the mountain, however it was not ready. So we will have replay it on this week by the end of the quarter.

When were doing our night on the mountain Mr Machlaclan gave us some ideas of how we can improve, but He found it funny, which was good.
Plus he said we should use the main 7 bad words.

We discussed who else would want to replay their scenes, Me and Meg will be doing our picture scene on wednesday, and it will be the last chance to get it done...Hopefully we will make it better than before.

After we finished watching our scene of night on the mountain, we went to so the Winslow BOY.... I really like it, wit everytime we go on... Most of us know the lines, which helps a lot basically.
I really enjoy playing Grace, and hopefully it will improve even better...!

    thank you.
    see ya

  5. Today we had planned to rehearse 'a night on the mountain' this didn't go too well due to absences. Firstly Sam, Ashley, Blue and Beatrice went and performed theres. The energy was great, each character put in a good effort, and the scene flowed well until towards the end. People began to get mixed up with their lines, since they added more lines to the paper. i believe once they have a fixed script the scene will be amazingly good, as it relates to teenager's lives and it works really well as it looks like a natural conversation.! good job :)

Next was Ema, Matilda and Izzy. There scene worked well at the beginning, but it began to look like they were improvising it. They did have quite a few interruptions. i liked the original idea they had of peer pressure, it really relates to todays day and age, and from what i heard before it looked like a really good piece.!

Rebecca was absent today so we had Matilda fill in for her. It wasn't the same and i think it threw me off a little. i think once we rehearse this scene properly with her and we learn our lines properly it will be a very interesting piece as it didn't include the vulgar language and situations as others groups did.

We discussed how this inappropriate language wasn't really necessary for the scene. Most scenes performed today consisted of this, and the scenes would have been just as good without this language.

In the second lesson we rehearsed "The Winslow Boy' The has progressed a lot. We are now fully off book which allows us to focus on characters. Each of us today had put in a lot of effort to make the scene work. I think we would all agree on the fact that this is our favorite scene. which makes us work 10 times harder since we all want a good outcome from it!
Keep up the hard work :D

Today Astrid and i set thursday as the day when we will repeat our picture scene. I dont think it was that bad the first time but it can definitely be improved and made a lot stronger. We will be rehearsing tomorrow lunch and on wednesday :)
Then we went onto the Night on the Mountain scenes which, dare i say were not that successful. I think that Denis, Megan and Becky have the best script but if they do all the things that they could do, it could definitely become a great scene.
The group with sam, ashlie, beatrice and blue also has the potential of being good but the thing is that some of the people didnt agree with the script and didnt take it seriously and rolled their eyes which brought them all down a bit.
My group with Ema and Izzy...well lets just say that i dont think we were prepared enough because i was sick when they wrote it and i didnt get to see the script until last night because of some problems with posting it on the blog or something. Anyway, the plot needs a little work and it needs to be made longer so we were hoping to work on that this evening but that didnt really go according to plan because we had different things today after school so we'll try to do that tomorrow, or i'll try to do some now and bring the suggestions in tomorrow etc.
The winslow boy is definitely ccoming along but the class has to trust each other more about knowing lines which is hard to do obviously because of the lack of 'experience' in this but some people tend to cut each other off and if they start doing that now, those lines will eventually be eliminated. But basically the most important thing now is that EVERYONE HAS TO LEARN THEIR LINES. It would be so much help to everyone.
I really hope that the winslow boy turns out to be a great performance and a large leap forward from 'Hamlet'.
We'll see how tomorrow goes and if we manage to go from beginning to end on the winslow boy without scripts :D

Today as scheduled we worked on "A night on the mountain". We did not have a lot of time to meet up so the script was a bit all over the place so we stiched it together but got there in the end. I think our scene has some very strong bits and we were very relatable characters and it seemed very natural the lines compared to something really cheesy that you can tell we wrote this for our drama coursework. We need to work on symbolizing that pile of clothes and we discussed that we may want to have an argument about the sharing of the clothes, so there is definetely room for improvement of the script. We also talked about the use of innapropriate language. Although it can help, there are definetely fien lines. And its true what sir said if you wouldent perform it in front of a teacher maybe there is something wrong and im sure thats something that we will all take into consideration from now on. We can create jokes and things without language, and we will definetely tone it down now that we know. Afterwards we performed "The Winslow Boy" and we started from the ending and carried on from the beggining, i requested this because i thought me and bea needed to work on our scence more. Since i have been studying my lines, i felt i got the character of violet much more easier. And i got more caring and elderly womanish and am slowly getting there, so it was a good practice... I think the winslow boy is progressing very well :) Good work guys!!!

  8. Today we worked on 'A Night on the Mountain'. I'm with Matilda and Ema and although we had a script it needed more added to it and when we performed it, it was a complete mess. We want to merge it with our old script so that it gives it more of a plot. We want to still include the peer pressure but also make the script just a little bit different. We also rehearsed 'The Winslow Boy' and we started from the end and carried on from the beginning. It gave me a chance to go over my part at the end of the script. I was not here to rehearse this before and I feel that I know my lines in that part well. I think so far the Winslow Boy has come quite far from where we were before and is actually rather good. We will see how tomorrow goes and maybe we can continue from where we left of.

Todays lesson started like most lessons, we talked about the fact that were is always people missing and that will always effect the progress of the class.

Beatrice, Denis, and Patrick were meant to do their picture sense today in the first lesson, but because Patrick was not at school today, they could not and that got postponed to another lesson.

The next thing that was meant to have been done in this lesson was, to do the scene of 'night on the mountain" and because of script development problems, our group did not have a full scrip and had to rewrite parts just before class which made for todays lesson to be with scripts and very rough. We did rather well and the feedback from the class was very positive. Obviously they noticed the unfinished story line, but hopefully next time we run it, the whole script will be good enough for IGCSE.

I like the light hearted aspect of my group, it makes for a creative working environment, and most enjoyable drama lesson. We all seem to have an established persona in the scene and with set line will blossom into a really good piece.

Then the second group of "night on the mountain" attempted their scene, and end up diverting to improve and ended up getting abit heavy on their topics. So we ended up talking about the idea of decent script writing, and the content.

The thrid group was missing Rebecca but had Matilda reading for her part, and their scene seemed to work very well, i was very impressed by the length and depth they had covered in the scene. Out of the groups i think this one was the closest to completion. Although some of the cast were not off book.

We then worked on Winslow Boy, And started from the point in the script where i didnt know my lines, lucky for me. But the class was patient and let me stubble through my scene. which helped me learn my lines. Then we started from the top of the script.

We worked rather well as a class today, and got alot done, todays class could still be said as productive.

Today we had a double lesson and we were supposed to perform our "night on the mountain" scenes but since patrick was sick, his group couldnt do it, and since rebecca was absent my group couldnt do it either. Two other groups performed it, and it went quite well although they obviously need lots of more work, but they still put loads of energy into it and it looks really good, so well done :D

MR.Maclaclan gave us a talk about inappropriate language and how its not really needed in our scenes because with out it, its just as good.

When we finished doing the picture scenes, we went on to "winslow boy". im really enjoying the scene because everything seems to work out really well and i cant wait till we have all of it put together because im sure its going to be really good. i think we are all doing a great job with it, Well Done!!!!
