Reflection - Tuesday, March 2

Today we worked on our scene from The Winslow Boy. All players were meant to have been off-book by today, and many, though not all, were. Please write your reflection on today's class here.

(Ashlie, Ema and Matilda also put on a great performance of their repertoire scene at lunch today, so they can write about that if they like.)

Absent today: Izzy, Beatrice, Astrid (I'll try doing it this way from now on, but please leave a comment indicating that you were absent if I miss you.)

  1. Today we've worked on our ''The Winslow Boy'' script and we were supposed to be off-book but not all of us were so we got a grade for it. We still need a lot to improve before we can actually do all of this scene. It is the longest script we've ever had until now and it is a bit hard to learn all of our lines but some of the characters are split between two students.
Many of us practiced scenes between the characters and are improving. My character- John is split between me and Rebbecca and I am playing the first part of it( from page 8 to page 12) and the rest of it is Rebbecca's part. Though most of my lines are not long they are hard to learn because they are similar.

  2. Todays lesson was very much derided, Winslow boy was meant to be known off book, and everyone was worried about it. When we came in there were some people absent so we couldn't start from the top of the script. Those who knew their lines knew them well and managed to work on character development, and those who didnt this lesson helped to learn the lines further.

The classes energy today was very productive, everyone was in a working moon, and seemed to enjoy the time spent on the Winslow boy. Everyone came in with good attitudes and that make the whole lesson more enjoyable.

Each of us, are now at the stage where we understand the story line and are enjoying portraying it in our own way.

I am almost fully off book, and i surprised myself today, with how much i knew of the script. Unfortunately i didn't know it 100% today, but i knew it more then i thought i did.

Winslow boy is progressing very well, and i feel as though everyone taking the exam will feel fully comfortable with it.

Todays lesson has uplifted my spirits about the progress being made in our class. Now the Winslow boy is on the move, all the other pieces are just little bit that just need to be brought together and completed.

  3. Today we only had one single lesson, howeve we managed to do more than half of Winslow Boy.
I finally managed to split the lines with Desiree, and now it is much easier to understand which lines we should learn.

I managed to learn more lines than yesterday which is good and most of the people were off book today, which helped a lot in our acting.

On the lunch, me Matilda and Ashlie we rerecorded our scene 'the queen must die' and I think we managed to improve the grade, which is good.

Hopefully by next lesson, we will be all off book for 'the night on the mountain' which will be on Monday and off book for the 'winslow boy'.

I enjoyed today's lesson, it was very energetic and we should continue that way.

    see yoouuu...)

  4. Todays lesson was very productive. We rehearsed the Winslow boy. i am surprised at how far along we are on the scene, i think it will be a very good piece when we perform it.

We couldn't start from the top of the scene due to absences. We started from the family part, which went at a good pace. We knew our lines fairly well which allowed to find the actions we should be doing.

i am now comfortable acting out the scene with no script. i really enjoy acting out my character, and because i know my lines fairly well it allows me to play around with them, and see what works best.

i think this is the first piece of coursework people have actually been able to make huge progress on. Many have put in the effort of learning lines and fully enjoy acting out the scene, which makes it much more easier, compared to hamlet, where some people generally weren't motivated enough to learn their lines and help others.

We are at the point where everyone understands the plot and each others characters, and watching the film really helped us get a better idea of the scene, and how our characters could possibly be portrayed.

We have made a lot of progress on this! hopefully people keep up the good effort, and continue to put energy into the scene!
    Good job guys :D

Today i got to perform my part of the winslow boy and i got an idea of john (rebecca) who i am acting it out with. I didnt hold a script and i didnt have to call line but at the end i needed to see where my ques were for the last two two-worded lines which were in random places. Other than that i was happy with my performance, although i hope it will improve by the time we get to properly perform it.
In order for the scene to be improved to its full potential i think everyone in the class, including myself, has to learn to accept constructive critisism without being offended because it will really help the progression of it all if everyone inputed their ideas. Everyone should just listen to ideas and then choose for themselves if they wish to act upon them.
Then at lunch time Ema and Ashlie and I performed our repetoir scene again and i am really happy with the outcome of it and cant wait to see it on tape. Ashlie and i were saying how sad it was that it is over but hopefully we will perform it for high school some day! :D
Todays lesson was very beneficial on my part because i received a general idea of my scene in the winslow boy and i am very pleased with my queen must die!
I am now a little apprehensive about the night on the mountain because i was sick when my group wrote the script and i have still not seen it. But we will see how that goes on monday :)

  6. Today we only had a single lesson. We were to be off-book for a grade on Winslow Boy. I was worrried that I wasnt going to be able to memorize all the lines for arthur in his conversation with John, but thankfully I was able. Today I got to practice acting it out and I knew all my lines and didnt need to call line. I thought it was good to do this because it helps you experiment and feel what works and what doesnt work. Like Im trying to work on getting an English accent, but I dont know how well thats going to turn out. BUt overall i think i did well. Everyone else just needs to work on their lines a bit more, but many people do know them now which is good. Im really excited to get this piece going and start actually playing it with everyone off book. I really like this scene.
Then at lunch time, Matilda, Ema and I re-recorded our Queen Must Die and it went great. I really want to see what it is like on tape. Hopefully its good. Im kinda gonna actually miss doing this scene because its a really fun one to perform. Its definitely a crowd pleaser. LIke Matilda said I hope we get to perform it for high school sometime.
Next lesson we are to be off-book on 'Night on a Mountain' which is Monday. Hopefully everyone will be ready for those because they are pretty important scenes to do well in :)

Today we worked on "The winlow boy" again. We were supposed to be off book today some where half way there, but in time im sure it will get easier for everyone for there were alot of lines to grasp and ques can be very confusing when they are so far apart at times. Since beatrice was absent i did not get to perform my scene with ronnie at the beggining but i have been studying my lines at the beggining and i think i am getting there.. Violet the maid, has a good part i think and i am glad i got her for i think i can potray her character well because i can act caring and look after ronnie and be very obidient to people. Todays lesson had alot of energy, the way it should be :) good work peeeeps!
