Today was a very interesting lesson. At the beginning of the lesson we started to watch matilda emilia and isabellas night on the mountain scene. From the first time that i watched it, it was extremelly different at first it was about smoking, then teen pregnancy, but now its sort of sibling bullying and i think it fits well. They seemed to know their lines quit well, but i think they needed to be abit louder because at some points even i couldent hear,so probably the microphone couldent pick it up. But otherwise good job to them, it was well learnt and there was a good vibe going in that scene.

The second act, was my groups night on the mountain scene. Which consits of me blue ashlie and beatrice. We started to perform and on the first try it was good but not as strong as it could be because we didnt have rehearsal time so the lines kept slipping up but we knew the basic jist of the lines so that saved us alot! We did it twice and i think it went well and as sir said it really did feel like a strong rehearsal not the actual final peice. I think for coursework, it could be improved alot, and our lines need to be studied further because there are alot to learn.

Soon after megans group of denis and rebecca perforemed theirs. It seemed to be about a camping trip and them getting lost. It didnt go so well because the lines were not learnt from some, so it affected others, it definetely should not make other peoples grade go down if a person dosent know their lines the whole group shouldent suffer because of it! But from what i could see it seemed to be a very interesting script and i think tomorrow when they re peroform it, it will have its full potential and be better.

lastly des's patrick and astrids group was supposed to go but there was only 4 minutes till the bell went and it was usless filming so we didnt, and the group seemed to have a break down but we all need to chill really because everyones getting stressed with exams and learning lines and everything but we will get there for sure in the end, we just have to put that extra effort in! I think once we do that we will all imrove and get the results that we want :)

Today was a lesson which could have been so much more beneficial and better for all of us in many was.
We came into class and my group went straight into the night on the mountain scene which i had written a new script for from the ideas we came up with after our last catastrophic performance :P This story line is waayyyyy better and makes much more sense, which is really good and makes it a better scene. It was still not ready to send in as coursework but it was an extremely helpful rehearsal and now we know what we have to do to the script and how things are on stage. we got feedback from the rest of the class too which helped us and they seemed to liek some of the things we did which was comforting and made us happy! :D
i think that if we work more on the scene which we definitely will be doing, we can end up with a great and funny performance.I am confident in this.
Ashlie, Blue, Sam and Beatrice went next and i think they have improved their script significantly. it was really good and the girls really conect and work well together. they basically jsut need to learn their cues and better their lines. once it is finished it will no doubt be a really funny and developed scene.
Meg, Dennis and Becky went next and they didnt even get through the first page because they didnt know lines, well not all of them did. i still think that they should have gone through their scene with the scripts and used the ckass as a rehearsal. same for astrid des and patrick.
i really think that the problem is that we dont have enough time to rehearse in class so what i think we should do is that instead of filming in class, we rehearse and get constructive critisism and then after school or during lunch we film! i really think this will help us extraordinary much and also prevent wasting of precious class time.
the fact that we changed teachers half way through our course wasnt really helpful; i mean i think if we had had just one agenda, we would be less stressed but there's no point in talking about that, because there is nothing we can do about it.
In the end of the class we were discussing how we perceive drama. and personally i still enjoy it and dont at all dread the classes, but more and more now it is getting more annoying because you have to depend on people that you know you cant depend on and that is just not fair. i dont know if its better to group people so the reliable ones are with each other and the others are left to doing whatever they come up with.
basically i think everybody has to get more serious about drama and learn lines and if we continue to film in class, find some tiny time if we can find it and squeeze in some rehearsal.

i hope everything goes much better from now onwards and we develop and improve our coursework to our full potential!!! :D

  3. Today in drama we had planned to perform A night on the mountain. It was evident that no one was prepared today; I think a lot of us consider drama is a subject to be taken lightly like we did last year. Last year we did hardly anything in our classes; it was all based upon the arts festival. So I think to make a jump from doing nothing to cramming a lot of work in is going to be very hard and demanding which is something we have to get use to and commit to!

First Ema, Izzy and Matilda performed their piece. I really enjoyed this performance as it worked really well. It was a lot more developed than the previous rehearsal. Before they had an idea of teenage pregnancy which didn’t really give Izzy a purpose in the scene, but now they had changed her to one of the main focus in the scene which makes a lot more sense, they just need to develop the ending as it was a bit sudden and out of point!

Secondly Blue, Sam, Bea and Ashlie performed. I like their idea of the mountain of clothes if it was a bit bigger I would have made it more obvious. Each character in this scene is very important and reliant on each other, and so when they didn’t know their lines it affected other characters. Overall if they learn their lines well it will be a very good performance!

Our group performed next. It was a very frustrating situation as the problem with our group and many others was the problem with learning lines. Many students hadn’t learnt their lines which affected the performance of the other characters. It is a tough position to be in as our scene has SO much potential if the effort was put in by others. I do hope other characters in my group have learnt their lines so we can move on from this piece, as avoiding learning lines only prolongs things, and we become behind schedule, and at the end of the day we are going to have to perform it whether we like it or not, so if everyone could put the effort in from the beginning a lot of time would be saved!

Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to watch Desiree’s group, since many people at this stage were very wound up.

    We Can Do It! :D

  4. Today we had a double lesson that didnt exactly go very well. The class should of been more productive than it was. Today we were supposed to perform and film our night on the mountain scenes. The first group to go was Matilda, Ema, and Izzy. Their scene has greatly improved since the first time they got up on stage to do it. They first had it on teenage pregnancy and peer pressure and it was a good message but I think it had gone a little too far stretched. Now I think they have developed a much better scene. They all seem to know their lines quite well but they just need to get down on their cues for doing the hand high-five snap thing. They also do need to study their lines a bit more so they can make sure they get everything in for it to make sense. I also think that maybe they can add a bit more because it was a little short. but overall I think that with a little more practice their scene will be veryy good coursework.

After them, my group went and performed our scene. Its me, Blue, Sam and Beatrice. We did a first performance, and as we knew would happen, we messed up our lines a bunch. They were everywhere so we just stopped and started over. We made some adjustments already in how I would get on and off the stage and with the pile of clothes. Which we need to add more of. It really needs to be a big mountain. because now, like Mr. MacLachlan said, its just a mound. So the second time we did it went a bit better but still we kept messing up the lines because we didnt really know them that well. Then we tried it one last third time and it was better cuz we had a better idea of our lines from the previous tries. I think that we just need to get our lines down pat and the scene will be better because it seems to jumpy and random now when we start new conversations.

After us, was Meg, Rebecca and Dennis. They didnt exactly get off to that great of a start because they couldnt even make it through the first page. Not all of them new their lines. So we didnt think there was any point in them continuing on without their script. However I do think that they still shouldve just read through it at least once wit their script just for rehearsal to get a feel of each other and how things work.
Same thing happened with Astrid Pat and Des.
After we then discussed how we feel about drama class in general and if we actually like it anymore. I still do like the class a lot cuz its still fun but i agree with Matilda on the point that its just frustrating to be in a group with people who dont care and you know u cant depend on them.
We all just need to put in a little more effort than we are and i think we will be much better in performing pieces for coursework. :)

We started of today lesson with watching Matilda's group preform their version of 'A Night on a Mountain'. Their scene was really good in my opinion. Their chemistry is really working between the characters and I think they match into the roles very well. But the group need to be well of lines, and this will really boost the goups grade and preformance.

After this we watched Blue's group. This was also a very interesting scene, and very different from all the other scenes, which they all are. This was also a very good scene. I really like the script that the group has. But people need to be off book for it to run more smoothly and work a bit on the chemistry. The rest of the action they did was very good.

And then after this it was Megan's group. Her group didn't make it through the first page due to that people in the group weren't off-book and didnt really know their lines. So the group stopped after the first paragraph.

After this it was my group's turn to preform, but at this time there was only 5 minutes left. And then the hole group started to talk about drama as a class and if we like it anymore and the effort we all put into it. I think that yes, latly it has been a bit of a pain to go to drama. And everyone has too put more effort into it, and subject.
But I have to add that many people are feeling very stressed out about exams and cannot really find the time to really focus. And some people are also freaking out.

My group didn't get to preform our scene so we have to do that tomorrow.

Megan's right, WE CAN DO IT! :)

Todays lesson we started with the "Night on the mountain" scenes. Each group went up and preformed there own devised script, and were recorded, but because non of the groups were 100% really we ended up using todays time for rehearsal, going over the scenes a couple of time to get everyone on track.

I think all the groups benefited from todays lesson and it allowed us to come up with new ways of delivering the scene, as well as it helped us to pin point areas which we unnecessary.

I enjoy'ed watching each group, although they weren't fully realy to be preformed. Each of then have potential, and by listening to criticism made on other groups, i can get an idea on what i need to work for in my own group.

Its also very interesting to compare the scene, how we all diverged in to such completely different directions in terms of story line and plot.

The only obvious problem with todays class was the fact that we weren't ready. So non of the groups could fully show their scenes to the full, because of limited effort that was put in to learn lines.

All the scenes are capable of reaching the level of coursework we need, it just take time.

Today Mr. Maclachlan spoke of the over all enjoyment process of the drama class now a days. And understandably we all told him that drama had become like most other subjects, and that we will all just be happy at the end of all the coursework and exam stress. For me drama is one of my most enjoyable classes, but unfortunately sometimes, fun has to go out the window when relating to what need to be done.. and the frustration limited group participation.

We started off our double lesson by watching Matilda, Isabella and Emas night on the mountaion. i think their scene has developed a lot and is much more interesting than their other scene that had to do with teen pregnancy. i think they really fit well to their character and should keep working that way, because it looks really good! Well done!

After that, we watched Ashlies group. i really liked their scene, i think its very well planned out. It was very different to everyones (their all different) but i think they should know their lines a bit better, so everything is a bit smoother.

Then, Megans group performed. Her group couldnt act out their whole scene because Denis and Rebecca werent off book. I know their scene is very good though because i read their script, so its a shame that people didnt know their lines because its unfair for the people who DO know their lines.

The last group to perform is mine. we only had about 4 minutes left though and people were annoying me shouting "start!" "start!" but why should i start when noone was listening and Mr.M wasnt filming??? that really put me off and these are some reasons why i regret taking drama!!

Overall, the lesson went quite well, people have to learnt their lines and it will work out well.

  8. Rebecca:

In this lesson we started recording "night on the mountain" :). in all fairness none of the groups were 100% pleased with their performance due to the lack of commitment in each groups! If we put our minds to it we will surely manage to perfect these pieces since we have a lot of potential but unfortunately we push that aside.

Mr. Maclachlan spoke to us about drama in general and we gave a fair opinion on why our progress isn't up to date and why we are failing to produce a piece that is 'good' enough to be sent for coursework. I don't think its the teachers fault for our misbehaver and negative attitude towards drama, it's technically our fault for not being positive towards drama, we have to make an effort to enjoy it and if we do the positive energy will reflect in everyone's behaviour.

The groups that went up to perform their pieces all need work in learning their lines especially mine (meg, denis, me:)) but i promise we will peruse in doing so and our final pieces will blow you away :)

We can surely do it if we put our minds to it because we all have the potential. Theres no point in complaining because at the end of the day we have to get this done! We all have to pull our socks up and start treating drama like any other lesson!

  9. In this lesson we started of with my group which is Matilda, Izzy and me. We anged our lines for "The Night on The Mountain" completely, with different names and different scene. I actually prefer the one we are doing now because we all learnt our lined perfectly by heart, we know exactly what we are doing, and the fact of how the tone movements changing there is very dun and interesting.
When we finished our performence Mr machlaclan gave us some ideas of how we can improve it and he was absolutely right, and we totally work on the end.

After we were done the next group was the most hilarious one of Blue, Beatrice, Ashlie and Sammy. First of all most of them knew their lines perfectly which makes it easier to watch and understand. The scene is from the beginning was different compared to others.
They use a lot of fun sayings, and that makes it so realistic, however there are some things that can be improved, but overall I actually loved it.

The next group that went was Megan, Rebecca and Denis. I am sorry for saying that, but it is absolutely not fair on megan that she knew her lines, she was ready to perform, but Denis and Rebecca were giggling and looked like they didn't even know their lines that well... It started with an interesting beginning, so hopefully they will continue working on it...

Next was Astrid's group. Where was Desiree, Patrick and Astrid. It was sad that the bell was going to go so they did not have that much time to perform, plus at the end Desiree got angry or annoyed and she couldnt perform... Also I must mention that after Astrid had done the script, print it out for Patrick and Des, Patrick gave her a comment of "Oh Astrid you changed all the script"...That meant that he did not go over it once and he did not know his lines and was not ready to perform. completely unrespectful to Astrid's group...Same, I hope if will improve, because I wish to see it...!!!!!

  10. In this lesson we started of with our group which is Matilda, Ema and me. We learned our lines for "The Night on The Mountain" even though we had decided to start over completely. I much prefer our current scene and we knew our lines very well, the problem was some of the hi5's. We know what we're doing, the problem with our scene is the length and the way it goes from one thing to another a little too quickly. We felt we needed to add more to particular parts which would help our performance. Mr Maclachlan gave us some ideas of how we can improve it and lengthen our scene.

After we finished our scene the next group was Blue, Beatrice, Ashlie and Sam. It was a very good scene which has a lot of potential if they can remember all their lines and have a larger "mountain". The scene was longer than what we saw before and some things were explained. They have a very good idea and also a very different one, all that needs doing is making the pile of clothes bigger. There was one part in the scene where she mentioned the clothes looked like what another girl was wearing and it works well. I really liked this scene and once they're finished I think it will be really good!

Then, after that Megan, Rebecca and Denis did their scene. I thought it was very different from the other groups and doesn't actually seem to be mentioning anything rude which is quite a suprise for our class. Megan knew her lines well where as the others weren't so sure.

Next was Desiree, Patrick and Astrid. We didn't actually get to see that scene and I'm looking forward to watching what they have come up with.

In today's lesson, we started by watching Izzy, Matilda and Emilia perform their 'A Night on the Mountain' scene. They changed it a lot from the last time that we saw it. It went from smoking, teen pregnancy and things like that to a scene of two more 'popular' girls picking on and bullying their not as popular little sister. It was much better than it was the last time though. I think they should slow it down a bit, so that it transitions better. For example, from the bullying to the part where they say good night.. They should add more there. And they should also work on their timing, like for the snapping and high 5 thing, which would work really well if they did it on time :)

After that, Ashlie, Samantha, Blue and I performed our 'A Night on the Mountain' scene. This was our first time rehearsing our new script, because people have been absent and we haven't had a chance, but it went better than we thought it would. We need to start bringing in more props to make the mountain bigger though. We've added more to the script now, so I think it will be much stronger the next time we perform it.

Then, Megan, Rebecca and Denis performed their scene. Megan knew her lines well, but the others weren't as prepared. I think once they learn their lines, it'll be a lot better.

Desiree, Patrick and Astrid performed their scene next and that didn't work. :P Everyone was talking and it was the end of the double lesson so everybody was getting annoyed and stressed. Patrick was not prepared and he didn't know any of his lines and therefore had to hold the script while they attempted to perform it. Hopefully he will learn his lines for Desiree and Astrid and their scene will improve :)
