In today's class, we first watched Shelter be performed. Their scene is very good and some people were really good with knowing their lines but others didn't know their cues. We then practiced The Winslow Boy as a group, but since Izzy was not here, I had to read her lines as well. Some people then left class 10 minutes early to go help with the Smoothie Sale, so some people had to read other character's lines. I went outside with Sam and we practiced our scene (the opening scene between Ronnie and Violet). Patrick, Denis and I were supposed to perform our picture scene, but we weren't ready, so we have to do it tomorrow. And also for tomorrow's lesson we are supposed to be off-book for The Winslow Boy.

  2. In Today's class we first started by performing the ''Shelter'' scene. Some of us were very good with their lines, but others ruined it because of not knowing their lines, so it wasn't very clear, but still we will be re-doing it I think on Thursday's break and we have to be much better then we was today.

After me, Patrick and Beatrice were supposed to do our picture scene but since we were not ready with our scripts we have to do it tomorrow.

In the end of the first and beginning of the second lesson we were rehearsing ''The Winslow Boy"" and since we were not off book, we had to read our lines and some of us had to read lines of others because were absent or went earlier to the smoothie sale. We still have to practice a lot with our scenes and we have to get off book by next week. There are some roles which are split up by two people and they have to change for e.g. my character- John is split up between me and Rebbecca so we had to decide which lines are mine and which lines are hers.

  3. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH I wrote a long reflection, send it and then my computer cracked and I lost all what i've written... aahhh annoying blog.

    Well
    over again.

Today we had a double lesson and I practically enjoyed it, we've started with the shelter as Patrick wasn't here last time. It was good but however some of the scenes are still not known... I think some of the characters should still practice their lines.
After they finished we did the Winslow boy, however most of the class did not know their lines, including myself, as I was sick for couple of times and didn't know we had to learn it.
By tomorrow I should know all my Grace lines, however I need to split my lines with Des, but she is always away, so we need to find time for it.
On the second lesson after break we continued the Winslow Boy and I actually did like the way it is, and hopefully tomorrow it will be even better without using your lines.

    Soo see you tomorrow
    xxx

Today we went over the winslow boy in class which i dont think really went the way people expected it to go. Before that however we watched the group 'Shelter' perform. I personally think that if everybody in that group put in half the effort that they are capable of, it would be really good. I really dont think its fair for the people who are taking the igcse or even just want to do well in drama, when others are just not learning lines or wasting as much time in class as possible instead of rehearsing. If those who weren't ready today get their acts together it will be good for everyone.
Then when it came to the winslow boy most people didnt know their lines either which i think is really bad because some of them didnt even know one line. Even if you knew them but not word for word. That wasted even more time and messed up the whole plan for the following lessons. However although people were reading scriptsl, we did learn a bit of blocking and got an idea of how everyone else is doing. I didnt get to my part which was annoying because i wanted to see how the scene came out today so i could improve it for tomorrow. All in all the lessond did produce a relatively good outcome because we now have a better idea of the stage and our actors so we can hopefully rehearse properly tomorrow given that everyone is three quarters off book.
Today i actually felt a little bit worried because i had a feeling that the winslow boy was going to turn out a bit like Hamlet did but by the end of the class i was more confident. I really hope it will be as good a piece as it has the potential of being! Everyone just has to find the will inside of them and give drama a little bit more time. :D

  5. Today we started the lesson by performing Shelter. To be honest none of us were confident in performing the piece, we knew it need work towards the end, which we never really rehearsed as a group. i think people in the group need to have a bit more motivation in order to pull the others up. it is a very interesting and relevant scene to perform, i enjoy watching the other characters unfold their life stories. We are going to perform it again on thursday and friday, and hopefully people would have learnt their lines, and it will be a good piece.

Afterwards we did our first rehearsal of the Winslow boy. i really like the plot of the play, to me its very intriguing, and also the way people portray their characters raises curiosity about the character. I think people are comfortable with their characters, and are now understanding their purpose in the scene. This should have been established before since we were supposed to be off book by today, but it was evident not a lot of people were. I enjoy acting as Dickie, he is a very striking character, and is easily annoyed. i have never played a character like him before, so i have experimented ways of acting him out. i cant wait to perform this piece, which we will do properly tomorrow, and we will all hopefully be off-book which will make it a lot easier! Learn your lines people :D

  6. Today we had a double lesson. We started off with the performance of the group 'Shelter.' However, not everyone had learned their lines as supposed to, so they didnt finish performing it and stopped early. I feel bad for the people who are actually doing their IGCSE because they want this to be a good piece of coursework for them to use and the whole group, as in the ones who arent doing it, needs to put that into consideration because it's not fair. The scene is actually really good, and all the people in that group have what it takes to make the scene really great. They just need to work a little harder than they are in learning their lines.

Then after they stopped, we were all supposed to be off-book for Winlow boy. That didnt exactly go as planned either. We started to go through it and people were using their scrips, there were a few who did know most of their lines but not completely. We went through it anyways as much as we can until break. Not everyone was playing their real part at that time because some students had to go and help with the smoothie sale. After break, we were going to either break off and study our lines on our own or with a partner or run through it. I'm glad we chose to run through it, because we hadnt read through it before with everyones assigned parts. I think it was very good practice for us tomorrow, because we changed the off book date for then. We all now have a better idea of whos playing what, how the blocking goes, and how you as your own character should play their part.
Overall I felt it was actually a good productive lesson even though we are off schedule. I just really hope that everyone will learn their lines because this scene has the potential to turn into a really great scene if everyone does their part :)

Today in class we started off with watching Shelter perform their scene. I actually really like the scene Shelter and think that it can be really good, better than it is at the moment if everyone in the group puts in the effort to really make it work and learn their lines.
The start of Shelter went really good. I loved the energy in the start, but the group then lost this energy in the end because people didn’t know their lines and the group had never really practiced the end before together. This really messed things up for the group which was a pity.
It ended up with Megan and Blue having to feed lines to people who were one because they did not know their lines. People also went off when they were supposed to be on and Blue had to tell them to get back on "Stage" again.

After this, we started going through the Winslow boy. But because many people didn't know their lines, WE ALL HAVE TO BE OFF-BOOK ON 'THE WINSLOW BOY' BY TOMORROW! And I think that it’s really time for everyone in the class to step up to the plate and really put some effort in to this.
We started to read the script and I think the characters part got sorted out very well. Everyone got a part they can work on and the lines are around the same for everyone.
It all went well as far as we got. I am looking forward to seeing the outcome of tomorrow’s lesson and work.

But due to that we are doing the Winslow boy again tomorrow, people need to work in and outside of school (whatever they choose) to finish the Night on a mountain script which we all have to be off-book of on Monday.

  8. Double lesson was spent tackling both Shelter and Winslow boy. We Started with My group Shelter and attempted to bring together the on going piece that never seems to work. I start off really liking this scene, but now with all this delay its getting tedious and rather disappointing. I think its a really strong scene and it has such interesting aspects, with diverse character, and i know we are capable of doing it, its just about effort and commitment. I dont want to point the finger at anyone, but its some what obvious whose letting the group down. And because of that lack of enthusiasm the whole group is starting to slip into a negative mindset.

Shelter could have served as brilliant coursework, but it seems that now, its going to just be a grade on my-school, and will not contribute to my over all IGSCE Drama Coursework.

We then worked on the Winslow boy, which obviously was more productive. People seemed to know there lines and were more interested in preforming it. We where also have meant to be off book, but thanks you the kindness of Mr. Maclachlan we got away with having to graded work moved to the next day.

We were also enlightened to the further plan, of coursework, what need to be done and when we need to be off book.

I think at the end of this lesson everyone was overwhelmed with the amount of stuff we need to do. coursework and performances!

The huge problem in our class is group participation, everyone works at there own speed and have their own priority. but this effects the progress made in class hugely! everyone should realise that group work can only be successful if everyone pulls there own weight. Even if its not your favourite subject, being selfish about it interferes with others potential and to me that isn't right.

Hopefully everyone of the VIS Drama class of 2010 will learn to work together in the last few months and produce brilliant work. Even those who are not doing the Exam for IGSCE.

Today firstly the shelter group where supposed to perform shelter as a rehersal for when we taped it, but it seemed that some scenes towards the end were very weary and some of the lines where not thoroughly known so we decided to stop it there and were told that all lines had to be learnt for the taping! And we also stayed in two lunchtimes to record this, so the rehearsals where actually worth it. The bits where all the characters were on stage i felt where alot stronger to the ones against two people because the lines where not learnt as well.

Then after we did shelter during the second lesson we started work on "The winslow Boy", our igcse coursework. We were supposed to be off book on the winslow boy but many where not quite there so kindly (: mr mclachlan postponed it for the next day! We went through practically the whole thing, and it was good to get too see how it would work out and very good rehersal time. I quite like my part as violet and with further study of my lines, i think i can play the character well.

We just have to clarify all our lines and can get down to some hardwork! (:
